firlalaith reblogged your photo: UGH, damn you hollywood, please let this movie…
Yeah, I wanna know what that tag in the background means.
I saw a ton of those, nearly on every building damaged when I was down there, post-Katrina. It’s a…
I’m not sure if you guys would be interested in seeing more but there are a few good art books out there about the FEMA fridges with lots of funny (and sad) photographs in them. Two good ones are “Do Not Open: The Discarded Refrigerators of Post-Katrina New Orleans” and “Spoiled”
The really sad thing about those markings is that if you drive around down here (I’m from New Orleans) it’s not hard to still find them on abandoned buildings. People think all that stuff is gone because New Orleans has recovered with a vengeance, but places like Lakeview and the 9th Ward (neighborhood districts in NOLA) that got the brunt of the levees’ fury are still half ghost towns. My friend’s mom only recently moved out of her FEMA trailer last year and less than half the houses around where my grandfather used to live (he got 6 feet of water in his house) are occupied.
On a lighter note, I hope they’re still filming this movie. Any chance to see Karl Urban is worth all the moaning I do about trying to find parking when the movie crews are out and about. <3
Orpheus, Lundi Gras, at Canal and Royal. God I love New Orleans.
Come on down to the Mardi Gras :D
Yup, pretty much.
Although I can hear those Mardi Gras parades from my front porch currently…
list of thing I’ve eaten that I would probably be judged for
xybutt:
- turtle - extremely chewy
- donkey - not bad
- shark - shark fin soup, guilty pleasure
- lamb (??????? Kitty does not want XD)
actually there is a variety of shit my dad made me eat when I was in China. Jellyfish isn’t something to be judged for, right?
things I want to try
- kangaroo
- gator
- dog
- buffalo
Man, I wouldn’t judge you for any of those things, but I’ve also eaten most of them.
Turtle soup is absolutely delicious.
Lamb, also delicious particularly with mint sauce.
Kangaroo tastes like…if chicken were red meat.
Gator is on my list a favorite foods. But I’m from New Orleans so it’s a standard food here, not considered rare or weird. I’ve also had crocodile, which surprisingly, tastes different. Gator is nicer.
Buffalo burgers are fucking awesome.
I’ve also had octopus, eel, sea urchin, squid, deer, blood cakes (black pudding), frog, rabbit, crickets, worms, and crawfish (suck the heads!) I usually don’t ask questions about my food being a Louisianan. If I can eat it before it eats me, it’s fair game.
I want to try snake, ostrich, scorpions, squirrel, horse, and shark sounds pretty damn interesting.
KINGCAKE BREAD PUDDING?!?! Oh sweet baby Jesus, it’s like a joygasim in my mouth.
I fucking love you New Orleans.
